Engaging community leaders
When changes in flood risk occur, citizens have questions - and so will your community leadership. To assure a smooth transition, be sure that elected officials, community groups and other stakeholders are kept informed as the process moves forward. It is particularly important that they understand there is still flood risk when levees are improved. They should also know that low-cost preferred risk flood insurance will be available to protect residents and business owners.
Tools for local outreach
The materials in this section will help you inform community leaders about the map change process and the continued planning that is taking place. They will also help answer many of the questions leaders will have. There are also fact sheets that you (or they) can adapt for use at community meetings.
