The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) established the Community Rating System (CRS) Award for Excellence in 2010 to recognize individuals who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in promoting flood insurance and advancing floodplain management and mitigation. The award is intended to raise awareness and mutual support for flood insurance and mitigation between local government officials and insurance agents in the community.
Announcements seeking nominations for the annual award are posted on the CRS website in November or December of each year.Nominee Qualifications

Community Rating System (CRS) training opportunities are offered throughout the year at the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA's) Emergency Management Institute (EMI) and at field-deployed locations. New CRS coordinators are encouraged to attend the 4-day CRS class (E278). The course is free, and travel expenses are covered for those accepted to the EMI. CRS communities across the country have formed CRS Users Groups to share information about CRS activities and credits. The groups also offer training opportunities. To find a CRS Users Group in your area, contact your ISO/CRS Specialist.
